Can people recommend good novels for the 10-16 age range? Especially more current ones?

A couple of my students have gone crazy over the 39 Clues series (or at least the first one), but I haven't read them myself.

I just finished Graffiti Moon (YA Romance) and absolutely loved it. I also really liked Reason to Breathe (YA Romance/Drama) and The Ultimate Sacrifice (YA Fantasy).

The Artemis Fowl (Eion Colfer) books are fantastic as is the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore. I'm not fond of the Cherub series especially but I know they go down well. Also seconding the rec for the 39 Clues series. Depending on the reader The Percy Jackson series might also be worth looking into :D

Divergent by Veronica Roth (YA dystopia)
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins (YA paranormal; I love the series for its more lighthearted tone compared to others in the same genre)
The Tomorrow series by John Marsden (a little older, but really excellent)

I'd recommend these for the upper part of that age range, depending on the child; the Tomorrow series in particular is read in a lot of Australian high schools (12+).

I'm reading "Divided City" by Theresa Breslin at the moment because, when I was shadowing at schools late last year, they were using it for the first years (12yos). Its fairly new, I think, but might be too... geographically located (its based in the city in which I live).

The Alcatraz series by Brandon Sanderson.

The first is Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians

They're geared toward 10-12ish I believe and they make hilarious and fun reads.

I want to share my favourite DW comm :p Did anyone else ever read The Baby-sitters Club, by Ann M. Martin? There's a fairly strong fandom for these books, and [community profile] babysitters100 is a prompt-based fanfiction community. (It's also on LJ - [livejournal.com profile] babysitters100.)

So much good fic already posted to trawl through, and anyone who wants to join in is welcome - it's very low-pressure, no time limit or anything, and a very friendly place to be a part of. ♥ Nostalgia fandoms ftw!

I spent most of my childhood reading these books (and the ones with the two blonde twins (something about sweet valley?)), and I have such fond memories of them. And, I thought that teenagers totally got to do the coolest things and I was disappointed to discover that turning 13 didn't mean that people let you do stuff like they did in the books.

My favorite one was the one with the summer camp!

I have this total yen to watch movies I haven't seen before but I'd rather have movies that have been recommended. So, I wondered, what movies do you think everyone should watch? I don't mind language (as long as I can find subs) or genre or age of the movie(s). Just, movies you think are awesome.

I'm a huge fan of adaptations, so:

Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You are great teen adaptations of Emma and The Taming of the Shrew (and I'd second the rec for She's The Man).

Bride and Prejudice is my favourite Pride and Prejudice adaptation (starring Aishwarya Rai, who I adore).

Snow White: A Tale of Terror is a fairy tale adaptation I really love, as is Ever After.

All romantic comedies, I think, but really, really good ones.

Well, I have over 5000 fics from Teen Wolf, Supernatural and Harry Potter bookmarked in my delicious account if anyone wants to try a lucky dip?

The fics are vaguely organised by pairing, category and theme if you are after a specific type.

Since we seem to be using this as a way to spread the fannish joy through recs, I thought I might give it a shot as well!

I'm looking for a certain type of time travel fic (in any fandom really if the story doesn't require knowledge of the source material, or in fandoms I'm familiar with: Teen Wolf, Harry Potter, Supernatural, Star Trek, Stargate, White Collar, Leverage, Criminal Minds, Community, Avengers). I'm certain there is a name for this type of fic, but I don't know what it is. The basic thought is that someone (or more than one someones) travel back in time (either on purpose to change something or accidentally) but while they're there they are inhabiting their body that would have been in that time. So if Sam or Dean went back 15 years, they'd be in their teenaged bodies but with their adult memories.

Any types of content or violence or anything like that are fine, I'm not fussy about character or pairing, but basically anything you would rec that would fall under the general umbrella of that type of time travel would be fantastic.

Thank you!
